Brexit shadow

We have produced 'A Guide for Brexit Planning' as an overall practical guide for those businesses and people involved in business and commerce and people who are looking for general practical help with some of the issues they may face in the next few months. The Guide has been produced by various teams in Stronachs LLP using open source material and in particular the UK Government’s helpful publications.

For specific advice or information in different areas covered in this Guide please refer to the contact details set out at the back of the Guide.

Contractors who want to get a slice of the long-anticipated deluge of decommissioning work in the North Sea need to be aware their contracts should cater for unknowns which, if not addressed properly, could see their profits from these jobs suppressed or wiped out. A specialist contractor taking on work as part of a decommissioning project may discover discrepancies, from differences between information on paper – for example in platform design – and the reality offshore, to discovering material such as asbestos or NORM, which they weren’t told would be there.

Air travellers are used to captain’s warnings of the potential for turbulence – most are accustomed to considerable ups and downs, with crew and passengers remaining calm and arriving at their destination without the onset of panic.

There are however times when one or two can’t take the rocky ride in their stride and scream, unsettling everyone.

As we write today (11 September) Brent crude futures stand at $48.52 and WTI futures at $45.13. Where prices will stand when this edition is published, no-one can guess. What we do know is that low prices and high operating costs have driven operators to seek efficiencies and to drive down operating costs whenever it’s safe and possible.
