AN Aberdeen legal firm will donate £200 to Friends of Anchor from the sale of every home it lists in June 2017, as it begins a year-long campaign to support the local charity.

Stronachs LLP will make the donation from the firm’s fee for selling the property, on the condition that the seller quotes ‘Friends of Anchor’ when listing with the Stronachs residential property team.

The full-service law firm has also committed to a programme of additional fundraising activities for Friends of Anchor, with staff aiming to raise £20,000.

Teams from Stronachs have already signed up to take part in the Baker Hughes 10k Running Festival, Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run, Glack Attack, Ride the North, Run Balmoral and Anchor Wipeout challenges this year.

Stronachs will also host a second annual ladies’ afternoon tea party at Hazlehead Café on Friday, June 9, following the success of last year’s inaugural ‘Tea in The Park’ event, which raised more than £10,000 for charity.

Carol Crowther, partner at Stronachs and chair of the firm’s social and charities committee, said: “Every year we ask our staff which charity they would like to fundraise for and this year Friends of Anchor was the clear winner.

“Friends of Anchor provides invaluable support for those affected by cancer in the North-east, as well as raising funds to provide advanced medical equipment and leading cancer research, so we’re honoured to support this incredibly worthy cause.”

The clinics and wards of the Aberdeen and North-east Centre for Haematology, Oncology and Radiotherapy (ANCHOR) Unit operate within Aberdeen Royal Infirmary to treat patients with all forms of cancer, leukaemia and benign blood disorders.

Friends of ANCHOR was set up in 1997 to directly support cancer and haematology patients by committing long-term funding to medical equipment, patient wellbeing and leading cancer research. Every penny donated goes directly to the cause as all of the charity’s running and administration costs are covered by Balmoral Group.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the organisation and the launch of their biggest fundraising appeal yet – ‘Dream Big’. The charity has pledged £1 million to the University of Aberdeen’s ambitious £4.5m project to attract and recruit a world-class cancer research team to the North-east.

Rhona Miller, senior finance and fundraising executive at Friends of ANCHOR said: “We are thrilled with the tremendous support from Stronachs. The colleagues are truly engaged and have thrown themselves into some fantastic challenges and events - all to raise vital funds for the cause.

“Without the support of individuals and our corporate partners, Friends of ANCHOR couldn’t continue its vital investment in the ANCHOR Unit.”
