Stronachs’ commercial litigation and employment law expertise highlighted in Chambers UK 2027 guide

Published: October 20, 2026

Stronachs is celebrating another strong performance in the Chambers UK 2027 guide, with its expertise recognised across five practice areas in Scotland.

The law firm, which has offices in Aberdeen and Inverness, retained its rankings in litigation, employment, corporate/M&A, energy & natural resources (oil and gas), and real estate (up to £10 million) in the prestigious legal directory, which identifies the UK’s leading lawyers and law firms.

The latest guide brought particular success for Stronachs’ Dispute Resolution Team. Partner Robert McDiarmid, who heads up the team, moved up the exclusive list, now ranking within the top eight litigators in Scotland and the highest-ranked litigator outside the Central Belt. Partner Deborah Law also achieved her first individual ranking within Chambers’ list of Scotland’s best litigators.

The team received positive client feedback, with Stronachs described as a “very good firm that can punch above its weight in terms of quality of work and clients” and praised for its “level-headed solicitors who are up for a fight if that is needed”.

Able to advise on Scots and English law, Stronachs’ Dispute Resolution Team has extensive experience at every level of the court system. The team handles a wide range of disputes, including breach of contract and shareholder matters, and often acts on international commercial disputes.

Robert McDiarmid, who specialises in disputes relating to breaches of contract and warranty, as well as other contentious corporate matters, was recognised as an exceptional litigator with excellent knowledge and skill. Client feedback also highlighted his calming presence and his ability to “fight with sophistication”.

Described as a reliable and impressive disputes lawyer with deep insolvency expertise, Partner Deborah Law was commended for being “strong at guiding businesses and directors through complex, high-stakes disputes”.

Stronachs’ employment law expertise was also recognised in the guide, with the department retaining its ranking and Partner David Chalmers, who heads up the team, rising in the individual employment law ranking. David received positive client feedback about his approach, excellent response times, and “clear, measured advice which takes account of commercial reality and reflects decades of experience”.

The Employment Team advises clients on employment law litigation, HR advisory matters and business immigration. The team also has expertise in corporate transactions and the application of TUPE in business transfers and service provision changes.

Partners Neil Forbes (Corporate/M&A), David Marshall (Agriculture & Rural Affairs), and James Muir (Energy & Natural Resources: Oil & Gas) also ranked individually in the latest Chambers UK guide.

Robert McDiarmid, Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution at Stronachs, said: “Retaining our rankings across five practice areas reflects the strength and breadth of expertise across the firm and the dedication of our teams.

“It is particularly encouraging to see the increased recognition for our dispute resolution team this year, with Deborah achieving her first and well-deserved individual ranking. The positive feedback from our clients is equally rewarding and highlights our commitment to providing high quality, commercially focused legal advice.”

Stronachs’ private client excellence was underscored earlier this year in the Chambers High Net Worth Guide, with the firm retaining its ranking for Private Wealth Law in Aberdeen and the surrounding area. Three solicitors also received individual recognition, including Partner Jaclyn Russell, who retained her top Band 1 ranking.

The Chambers results follow Stronachs’ recent success in the Legal 500 UK 2027 guide, where the firm also retained its rankings across five practice areas: corporate and commercial, oil and gas, private client, dispute resolution and agriculture. Corporate Partner Neil Forbes retained his Hall of Fame recognition, Corporate Partner Callum Armstrong was once again named a Next Generation Partner, and Private Client Partner Jaclyn Russell achieved Leading Partner recognition.
