CPI Award - Deborah Law

Published: August 28, 2023

Deborah Law, partner in the dispute resolution team, has been awarded the Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency (CPI).  Deborah was one of eight candidates from England, Scotland and Wales to earn a merit and was ranked first of the Scottish candidates.

The Insolvency Practitioners Association CPI is a highly regarded and widely recognised qualification for insolvency and restructuring professionals and the syllabus covers both corporate and personal insolvency.  The exam is known to be challenging and is intended to test both technical and practical knowledge.

Speaking on behalf of the Board, Neil Forbes said “When Deborah proposed to undertake the CPI this year, we were happy to support her in this challenge and are delighted that her hard work and dedication has been recognised.

“This is a qualification usually undertaken by those working for insolvency practitioners and there are a relatively small number of lawyers that have obtained the CPI.

“The continued development of our people is paramount and we are very proud of Deborah’s success in this area.  It illustrates the ability and talent we have at the firm and strengthens our insolvency offering to clients.”

Deborah commented “I was delighted to learn I had earned merit and gained the top mark in Scotland.  I undertook the training for the exam through ISS over a five-month period, prior to the exam in June.  I managed this around client work, partner responsibilities and family life – fortunately I knew I would be supported by my partners and colleagues during this time.  It was a big undertaking but very much worth it and the outcome demonstrates our continued commitment to the insolvency market.

“I am looking forward to attending the Personal Insolvency Conference in Manchester later this year where I can meet some of my peers and receive my award.”
